Intervention Effect Asymmetry and the EPP

چکیده
Although Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin are all wh-in-situ languages, they differ with respect to intervention effects. I use the term ‘intervention effects’ in accord with Beck (1996) and Beck and Kim (1997) to refer to ill-formedness that results when a particular phrase, generally a quantificational and/or focus element, c-commands a wh-phrase. In this paper, I refer to intervenors as ‘quantificational’ for the sake of simplicity, but note that this use of the term may not be completely adequate.1 In the Japanese (4a), the quantificational element sika ‘only’ c-commands the wh-phrase nani-o ‘whatACC,’ resulting in ill-formedness. In (4b) the wh-phrase is scrambled to a position higher than the quantificational element and the result is well-formed.

Manipulation Effect on Lumbar Kinematics in Patients with Unilateral Innominate Rotation and Comparison with Asymptomatic Subjects
Background: Lumbar motion analysis is used as a clinical method in the diagnosis and treatment of low back pain (LBP). So far, no studies have shown if manipulating the sacroiliac joint (SIJ) will change spinal kinematics. Objective: The main objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of SIJ manipulation on the lumbar kinematics in subjects with innominate rotation and to compare l...
متن کاملThe effect of postural restoration exercises on function and isokinetic torque of shoulder external and internal rotator muscles in non-professional athletes with shoulder internal impingement syndrome
Introduction: Internal Shoulder impingement is one of the most common problems in athletes with postural asymmetry. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of postural restoration exercises on patients' disabilities and the torque of the shoulder rotator muscles. Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial study, 23 patients with internal shoulder entrapment were randomly divided in...
متن کاملControlling hemorrhage in exsanguinating pelvic fractures: Utility of extraperitoneal pelvic packing as a damage control procedure
INTRODUCTION Exsanguinating pelvic fractures are still associated with a significant mortality rate of 28-60%. Extraperitoneal pelvic packing (EPP) has been proposed as an optimal method of early haemorrhage control. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of EPP compared with angioembolization as a primary intervention for patients with exsanguinating pelvic fracture. METHOD A pros...
متن کاملTumor extension along chest wall tract after diagnostic intervention in malignant pleural mesothelioma.
To confirm the risk of chest wall tract metastases following chest wall intervention for malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM), we reviewed our institutional experience. Between 2006 and 2010, 14 patients with MPM underwent chest wall intervention for diagnosis in Kyoto University Hospital. Seven of them underwent extrapleural pneumonectomy (EPP) after the diagnosis, while seven did not undergo ...

Purpose: Because walking is the main activity of humans for movement, many research studies have been conducted to understand its details. One of the main issues in this regard is gait symmetry and the effect of various factors on it. Accordingly, the present study aimed to review the selected factors affecting gait symmetry. Methods: A literature review was performed on articles published fro...
